House Panel Wants Information on Destructive Michigan Dam Breach

A bipartisan group of House Energy and Commerce Committee members wants answers about oversight from the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission and the state of Michigan following the recent breach of the Edenville dam that forced 10,000 residents to evacuate.

Chairman Frank Pallone (D-N.J.) and Ranking Member Greg Walden (R-Ore.), along with subcommittee leadership, on Monday sent letters to FERC Chairman Neil Chatterjee and the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy, asking why the Boyce Hydro dam continued to operate for years despite a record of noncompliance.
