House Panel Reaches Deal to Permanently Extend Conservation Fund

Backers of a soon-to-expire federal conservation fund got some unexpected good news Sept. 13—a vote by the House Natural Resources panel to permanently extend it and give states a bigger piece of the funding pie.

A deal crafted by Committee Chairman Rob Bishop (R-Utah) and committee Democrats would extend the Interior Department’s Land and Water Conservation Fund while ensuring that states receive no less than 40 percent of funds. States complained their projects had been shortchanged.
