House Lawmakers Try to Kick-Start Coal Mine Cleanup

A bid to deliver $1 billion in collected funds to coal states for abandoned mine reclamation was revived in the House April 9.

As in previous congressional sessions, the Revitalizing the Economy of Coal Communities by Leveraging Local Activities and Investing More (RECLAIM) Act enjoys broad support from both parties, as well as business and environmental groups throughout Appalachia.
