House Energy Panel to Move Fluorochemical Bills, Rep. Tonko Says

The House Energy and Commerce Committee is ready to take up several bills to clean up a widespread class of chemicals linked to cancer, immune system deficiencies, and thyroid and liver problems.

Rep. Paul Tonko (D-N.Y.), the panel’s environment subcommittee chairman, said he will “in a matter of weeks” hold a legislative hearing on bills related to poly- and perfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), a family of thousands of heat- and water-resistant chemicals.
