Drilling regulators in Colorado unanimously approved “mission change” rules altering the state’s priorities in regulating the oil and gas industry from fostering development to protecting public health, safety, and environmental and wildlife resources.
The Colorado Oil and Gas Conservation Commission held its final vote Monday on the changes (200-660 Series Rules, 800/900/1200 Series Rules). The three-month rulemaking process was directed by a law (S.B. 181) approved in 2019 calling for an overhaul of the state’s regulatory mission.
