HILL ENERGY BRIEFING: House to Vote on ‘Forever Chemicals’ Measure

The House plans to vote today on legislation that would establish a national drinking water standard for certain “forever chemicals” and would allow the EPA to designate them as hazardous substances under the Superfund law.

The “PFAS Action Act” (H.R. 2467), which the House passed last year but wasn’t advanced in the Senate, is bipartisan. Michigan Reps. Debbie Dingell (D) and Fred Upton (R) are the lead sponsors. PFAS, which can cause cancer and other health problems, is found in some drinking water as well as many everyday products, including nonstick cookware and firefighting foam.
