Highway Agencies Plan Monarch Butterfly Corridor

The declining monarch butterfly population may get a needed boost under a multistate plan to provide improved habitat along an interstate highway corridor from Texas to Minnesota.

State and federal transportation agencies signed a memorandum of agreement May 26 to improve pollinator habitat along Interstate 35, which is a key migratory corridor for monarch butterflies.

The agreement was signed by transportation agencies from Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Oklahoma and Texas as well as the Federal Highway Administration. The signing took place at the spring meeting of the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials in Des Moines, Iowa.
