Hawaii Climate Cases Sent to State Court in Setback for Industry

A federal judge late Friday remanded two climate liability cases to state court, a procedural win for Hawaii cities suing Sunoco LP, Exxon Mobil Corp., and other companies for their role in warming the planet.

The U.S. District Court for the District of Hawaii ruled the lawsuits from Honolulu and Maui—part of a nationwide legal campaign against Big Oil—belong in state court because “no basis for federal jurisdiction existing over the claims.”
