Groups Fail to Block California Logging After New Court Review

A federal judge in California again denied a request by conservation groups to stop national forest logging projects in that state after completing further review on remand from the Ninth Circuit.

Unite the Parks, Sequoia ForestKeeper, and Earth Island Institute wanted the US District Court for the Eastern District of California to block 31 of the 45 proposed projects in the Sierra and Sequoia National Forests. The projects threaten the Southern Sierra Nevada Pacific fisher, a small, weasel-like brown mammal protected under the Endangered Species Act, according to the groups.
