Green Groups Drop Challenge to Utah Oil and Gas Lease Approvals

A Utah federal court’s order allowing oil and gas leasing on public lands to proceed will stand after conservation groups dropped their appeal in the Tenth Circuit.

Rocky Mountain Wild, the National Parks Conservation Association, and two other groups challenged the Bureau of Land Management’s plan to issue 59 leases in the Uinta Basin. The groups told the U.S. District Court for the District of Utah that the plan will increase ozone pollution and it needs further review under the National Environmental Policy Act.
