Green Groups Challenge Energy Conservation Standards Rule

The Natural Resources Defense Council asked the Ninth Circuit Friday to review the Energy Department’s new rule for how the agency will evaluate the benefits and burdens of potential energy conservation standards in consumer appliances.

The Energy Department’s final rule was published in August and goes into effect Oct. 19. It’s meant to guide the Energy Department’s decisions as to whether specific energy conservation standard levels are economically justified under the Energy Policy and Conservation Act.
