GOP Blasts Land Bureau Pick Whom Ex-Boss Calls ‘Driven By Facts’

Bureau of Land Management director nominee Tracy Stone-Manning refused to be drawn into a long-running debate over whether she’d comply with a law to lease Alaska’s Arctic National Wildlife Refuge during her Senate confirmation hearing Tuesday.

Her remarks on the Alaska refuge came as Republicans on the Energy and Natural Resources Committee accused her of being avowedly partisan throughout her career, expressing views damaging to oil and gas producers.

Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska) asked Stone-Manning whether she would agree to further lease the refuge specifically to comply with a 2017 law that required another lease sale before 2024.
