Giant Formosa Plastics Plant Gets Fresh Look from Army Corps (1)

The Army Corps of Engineers has agreed to review a contested permit for a proposed Formosa Plastics petrochemical complex in Louisiana, a victory for environmental and community groups opposed to the project.

The agency notified the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia on Wednesday that a key authorization for the plant “warrants additional evaluation.” The Army Corps last year approved Formosa subsidiary FG LA LLC’s application to excavate wetlands in St. James Parish, La., to build the facility, which would be one of the largest plastics plants in the world.
