Gas Development on Ohio National Forest Leases Stalled by Court

Federal officials are prohibited from issuing new drilling permits on oil and gas leases in Ohio’s only national forest after a federal judge on Monday froze most development until the government revises an environmental analysis.

The U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Ohio issued the decision as a follow-up to its 2020 ruling that the Bureau of Land Management and U.S. Forest Service fell short of the National Environmental Policy Act in their analysis of oil and gas development in the Wayne National Forest.
