Genesee & Wyoming Railroad Services Inc., along with affiliated companies, has agreed to a settlement with the US Environmental Protection Agency and the Department of Justice for violation of Clean Air Act locomotive regulations, according to DOJ Tuesday.
The company allegedly failed to meet EPA emissions standards in their locomotives that contained rebuilt engines. GWRSI also allegedly did not perform mandatory emissions-related maintenance or keep records of maintenance, said the agency.
The consent decree settling the allegations requires the company to pay a $1.35 million civil penalty, comply with rebuilt locomotive engine requirements, and perform emissions-related maintenance, DOJ said. GWRSI ...
