Flood Insurance Extension in Latest Short-Term Spending Bill

Congress is set to extend the National Flood Insurance Program through Feb. 8 in the latest agreement to prevent a government shutdown.

The program has been kept afloat through a number of short-term spending measures.

Lawmakers have been unable to agree on how to overhaul the troubled program, which is now operating at an average annual deficit of $1.4 billion, according to the Congressional Budget Office.

The latest agreement to continue funding the government for another seven weeks provides support for agencies that weren’t funded through fiscal year 2019 appropriations this year, including the Environmental Protection Agency...
