Flood Insurance Extension in Latest Short-Term Spending Bill

Congress is set to extend the National Flood Insurance Program through Feb. 8 in the latest agreement to prevent a government shutdown.

The program has been kept afloat through a number of short-term spending measures.

Lawmakers have been unable to agree on how to overhaul the troubled program, which is now operating at an average annual deficit of $1.4 billion, according to the Congressional Budget Office.
