FirstEnergy Hit With Ratepayer Suit Over Ex-Unit Bribe Scandal

FirstEnergy Corp. “knowingly and intentionally” conspired with Ohio lawmakers to violate federal and state corruption laws in connection with a subsidy for two nuclear plants, according to a class complaint filed by an electric ratepayer in an Ohio federal court.

Former House Speaker Larry Householder (R) and four others were indicted for their alleged role in the $60 million scheme that led to a $900 million nuclear subsidy for the failing plants. The plants are owned and operated by Energy Harbor, a one-time subsidiary of FirstEnergy known then as FirstEnergy Solutions.
