Firefighters Seek Review of EPA’s Flame Retardant Analysis (1)

California firefighters and environmental advocates have asked the Ninth Circuit to review the EPA’s assessment of the risks of a flame retardant used in building materials.

In September, the Environmental Protection Agency found several uses of chemicals in the cyclic aliphatic bromide cluster, also known as HBCD, that would pose risks to the environment and workers. The Sierra Club, California Professional Firefighters, California Communities Against Toxics, and Learning Disabilities Association of America asked the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit Dec. 8 to review the EPA’s final risk evaluation of HBCD.
