Fight Looms Over Pesticide-Species Review in House Farm Bill

The House is poised to consider farm bill language that would curtail reviews of the impact of pesticides on rare species, removing a right to legal challenges in federal court.

The measure would give the Environmental Protection Agency oversight of a process that now depends on the input of two other federal agencies. The overhaul has long been sought by pesticide makers seeking to get their products re-registered and to market more quickly given that some reviews can last five years or longer.
