The federal government has failed to designate critical habitat for the green sea turtle in violation of the Endangered Species Act, conservation groups allege.
The failure of the Interior Department and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to act exposes the animals to an increased risk of injury and death, the Center for Biological Diversity, Sea Turtle Oversight Protection, and Turtle Island Restoration Network allege in their complaint filed Jan. 8 in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia.
The ESA doesn’t safeguard a species’ habitat until the government designates critical habitat, the groups say.
