Exotic Fish Dealer Pleads Guilty to Illegal Trafficking

A Pittsburgh man accused by the Justice Department of unlawfully trafficking in both invasive and federally protected fish species has entered a guilty plea.

Anthony Nguyen owned and operated a business specializing in rare and exotic freshwater tropical fish species. Nguyen was indicted in 2020 for selling illegally imported endangered Asian arowana, protected under the Endangered Species Act and the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora. He also unlawfully sold invasive snakehead fish, which pose a significant threat to native freshwater fish populations, DOJ charged.
