European Parliament Confirms 2030 Energy Reduction Targets

The European Union must meet 32 percent of its energy needs from renewable sources by 2030 under a law approved by the European Parliament.

In addition, under a separate law that lawmakers approved Nov. 13, the bloc must secure a 32.5 percent energy savings by 2030 compared to business as usual projections.

The measures, when implemented alongside other emissions reduction plans, would ensure that EU greenhouse gas emissions in 2030 will be 45 percent below their 1990 level, according to the European Commission, the bloc’s executive arm.
