European Commission Vague on Plan to Halve EU Pesticide Use

A health and food safety official in the European Union evaded lawmakers’ push Thursday for details on a plan to halve pesticide use in the 27-nation bloc by 2030.

The plan, which has raised concern among pesticide manufacturers, was part of a farming and food production strategy published last week by the European Commission, the EU’s executive arm. The strategy said the EU should cut “overall use and risk of chemical pesticides by 50% and the use of more hazardous pesticides by 50%.”
