EU Outlines Plans to Tackle Waste Plastic Scourge

Thousands of consumer goods companies stand to be affected by a raft of planned European Union measures on plastics.

In a strategy paper intended to address rising concern about the environmental impact of waste plastic, the European Commission, the EU’s executive arm, said all plastic packaging put on the European Union market should be recyclable by 2030. The paper also promised EU-wide legislation to tackle other plastic-related problems, including plastic microbeads entering the environment and waste plastic, such as nylon fishing nets, in the marine environment.
