EU Lawmakers Vow to Make Green Deal Even Greener

European Parliament lawmakers vowed to push hard for tougher targets and stricter standards when they vote on a slew of upcoming European Union environmental laws.

In a nonbinding resolution Wednesday on the European Green Deal, lawmakers said they would prioritize steeper greenhouse-gas emissions cuts and would advocate a reduction of 55% to be achieved by 2030 compared to 1990—rather than a cut of “at least 50% and towards 55%,” which has been promised by the European Commission, the EU’s executive arm.
