EPA Union Recommends Ex-Official as Agency’s New Midwest Chief

The EPA’s biggest union is calling for President-elect Joe Biden to appoint Micah Ragland, a former high-ranking agency official, as administrator of the agency’s Region 5 office covering the Midwest.

Ragland served as the Environmental Protection Agency’s head of public engagement under the Obama administration. The American Federation of Government Employees wrote in a Thursday letter to Biden that Ragland was deeply involved in the Flint water crisis in 2014, helping EPA “get access to homes where necessary sampling had to be done, and paving the way for the cleanup work of EPA’s scientists and engineers on the ground.”
