New PFAS ‘Unlikely’ to Get Fast OK for Production, EPA Says (1)

The EPA unveiled plans Tuesday to review how it regulates “forever chemicals,” as its top chemicals official also said that manufacturers of new PFAS shouldn’t expect a quick review that can lead to speedier sales.

It’s “unlikely” that brand new per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances, or PFAS, will qualify for an expedited 30-day review allowed by the Toxic Substances Control Act, said Michal Freedhoff, principal deputy assistant administrator for chemical safety and pollution prevention, during a webinar hosted by K&L Gates LLP.
