EPA Sued Over Delayed Look at Chemical Industry Air Standards

The EPA is failing to quickly review and update emission standards for the chemical manufacturing industry and is putting people at risk of breathing in dangerous pollution, community and conservation groups told a Washington, D.C., federal court.

The Clean Air Act requires the Environmental Protection Agency to issue national emission standards for hazardous air pollutants. The agency is also required to review and revise those standards every eight years, but that time has passed without the EPA taking action for chemical manufacturing area sources, according to the complaint filed in the US District Court for the District of Columbia.
