EPA Reaches Tentative Deal in Row Over Data on Asbestos Imports

The EPA reached an agreement in principle with states and public health groups to resolve a dispute over how it gathers information on imports of asbestos and products that contain it, the agency told a federal judge Thursday.

State attorneys general and health groups sued the EPA alleging violations of the Administrative Procedure Act and the Toxic Substances Control Act after the agency denied petitions pushing it to seek more information about how asbestos is imported into the U.S. The U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California ruled in December that the EPA must expand its information-gathering efforts...
