Products such as adhesives, pipeline wrap, and other goods that contain asbestos can only be manufactured or imported if they get EPA approval, the agency said in proposed rule released June 1.
The proposal (No. RIN 2070-AK45) wouldn’t affect the ongoing use of asbestos by companies including Olin Corp., OxyChem Corp., and the Westlake Chemical Corp., that use the mineral in the manufacture of caustic soda, chlorine, and hydrogen gas.
