EPA Proposal Aims to Deter New Production of Bygone PFAS

Companies that want to make hundreds of PFAS that haven’t been produced for years would have to seek the EPA’s approval before doing so, under a rule the agency will propose Thursday.

Any company that wants to make, import, or mix any of 330 per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) that have been out of US production since 2006 would have to notify the Environmental Protection Agency 90 days ahead of time so it can review the company’s plans, under the agency’s proposed rule (RIN 2070-AL10).
