EPA Posts Final Risk Values for 1,4-Dioxane;
Solvent Part of Contaminant Candidate List

The Environmental Protection Agency has released final risk values for 1,4-dioxane, a solvent that is among the contaminants that could be subject to regulation under the Safe Drinking Water Act.

The assessment of 1,4-dioxane, released Sept. 20 and conducted under the agency’s Integrated Risk Information System program, provided the agency’s first-ever reference concentration (RfC) for the substance. An RfC is an estimate of the concentration of the chemical a person could inhale throughout their lifetime without harm.
