EPA Not Locking Down Sensitive Material: In-House Watchdog (1)

The EPA still isn’t doing a good enough job of making sure contractors don’t “destroy, steal, or hold for ransom” sensitive information, the agency’s internal watchdog said Oct. 21.

Only seven of 21 Environmental Protection Agency offices submitted complete responses to the EPA’s chief information security officer confirming that their contractors had completed the required security training, the agency’s Office of Inspector General said in a new report.

The failure to comply arose in part because some EPA contracting officers’ representatives weren’t familiar with the training requirements, the report said. In other cases, the agency’s directives didn’t designate who...
