EPA Mulls Chemical Industry’s First-Ever Risk Evaluation (2)

The Dow Chemical Co. and five other chemical makers have submitted to the EPA a first of its kind chemical risk evaluation, the initial step in what could lead the agency to study if a particular chemical may endanger people, wildlife, and plants.

The Environmental Protection Agency announced Wednesday that Dow Silicones Corp., Elkem Silicones USA Corp., Evonik Corp., Momentive Performance Materials, Shin-Etsu Silicones of American, Inc., and Wacker Chemical Corp. asked it to evaluate the health and environmental risks of octamethylcylotetrasiloxane, or D4.
