EPA Hit With Suit for Failing to Revise Coke Oven Standards

Several environmental groups filed a Clean Air Act citizen suit seeking to require the EPA to revise emission standards, or determine they are not required, for two categories of coke oven source pollution.

The Environmental Protection Agency has allegedly missed the statutory deadlines to complete regulatory duties for the two categories of sources of toxic air pollution. The first source category covers “coke oven batteries.” The second covers “coke ovens: pushing, quenching and batter stacks.”

The environmental groups’ members have been and will continue to be harmed by the failures to act, the groups say.
