The EPA is extending by one month its public comment period on a proposal to create a federal coal ash disposal permitting program, the agency announced in the Federal Register Monday.
- Environmental advocacy group Earthjustice had asked for the extension due to the Covid-19 pandemic. “A number of public interest groups” requested extensions, according to the Environmental Protection Agency.
- The deadline, which was April 20, is now May 20. Coal combustion residuals, or coal ash, are the waste generated by coal-fired power plants.
