EPA Extends 1,4-dioxane Comment Period

The Environmental Protection Agency will extend to Nov. 15 its comment period for its draft human health assessment of 1,4-dioxane, a solvent and chemical used in the manufacture of many products, the agency will announce in a Sept. 16 Federal Register notice. In a recently released draft assessment, EPA proposed to set its first risk value designed to prevent respiratory problems the agency has found associated with 1,4-dioxane (179 DEN A-6, 9/15/11).
