EPA Draft Lead Strategy Lacks Deadlines to Meet Court Orders

The EPA’s proposed strategy to reduce lead in homes, water, and soil omits targeted deadlines to revise standards that a federal court ordered the agency to revisit.

The strategy, which is open for public comment through Jan. 26, describes educational, funding, and other Environmental Protection Agency efforts to help communities at high-risk of lead exposure.

Reducing exposure to the toxic metal found in older housing with lead-based paint, water systems with leaded pipes, contaminated soil, and other situations is an EPA goal.
