EPA Contests Judges’ Insecticide Ban Ruling

The Trump administration wants a full federal appeals court to weigh in on whether the EPA should ban a widely used insecticide called chlorpyrifos.

The insecticide is used on multiple crops including fruit, vegetables, and nuts and is produced by Dow AgroSciences LLC, Cheminova, and other manufacturers.

A three-judge panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit in August nullified the Environmental Protection Agency’s decision to overturn a proposed ban on the pesticide.
