EPA Considers Special Enforcement for Climate Change, PFAS

The EPA wants the public to help shape its enforcement plan for the nation’s worst environmental problems, according to a notice slated for publication in the Federal Register on Thursday.

The Environmental Protection Agency keeps a list of the nation’s most serious and widespread problems that can be most helped by tougher enforcement. Every four years the agency refreshes the list, depending on how conditions are changing.

For the fiscal 2024-2027 cycle, the EPA is considering adding two new items to its list of special enforcement targets: mitigating climate change and addressing contamination from per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS).
