EPA Air Nominee Declines GOP Queries About Power Plant Plans

Senate Republicans tried on Wednesday to pin down the EPA’s plans to regulate greenhouse gases once the Supreme Court rules on the agency’s regulatory authority, but were largely rebuffed by the Biden administration’s nominee to lead the EPA’s air office.

Joe Goffman, who has been serving as acting head of the Office of Air and Radiation since January 2021, said he didn’t want to do the federal government a “disservice” in answering questions about the agency’s greenhouse gas authority while the high court grapples with the limits of the agency’s legal scope.
