EPA Aims to Harden Science Policy After Alleged Trump Violations

The EPA is working to strengthen its scientific integrity policy, agency officials told staff during an agency-wide meeting on Wednesday.

The Environmental Protection Agency plans to bolster norms on honesty and rigor, transparency, commitment to evidence, and peer review, said Francesca Grifo, the EPA’s scientific integrity official. It also aims to ensure that independent science isn’t driven by policy or politics, and that the agency respects career staff expertise.

“These are norms that really need to be enhanced,” Grifo said. “We have them, but we can have them even more.”
