Environmental Justice Prompts Probe of NYC Pipeline Approval (1)

The EPA said it will investigate the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation’s actions to advance a natural gas pipeline in Brooklyn over environmental justice concerns.

Community groups learned from the Environmental Protection Agency this week that it would accept their August complaint contending that the pipeline project didn’t follow the required procedures to notify or educate the public about the pipeline or consider the impact of the pipeline on communities of color.

The complaint argued the state agency failed to adequately review the environmental impact of the pipeline, including disproportionate impacts it would have on communities of color. ...
