Enbridge Wants Pipeline Case Delayed, Pending U.S.-Canada Talks

Lawyers for Enbridge Inc.'s Line 5 pressed a federal judge to delay Michigan’s legal challenge to the oil pipeline, citing Canada’s move to seek diplomatic talks with the Biden administration.

Canadian officials invoked this month for the first time a dispute resolution process in a 44-year-old treaty to trigger negotiations with the U.S. administration about the pipeline project. The 1977 Transit Pipelines Treaty was intended to avert threats to energy supplies in either country.
