Drought in Colorado River Forces Water Cuts to Arizona, Nevada

A dry spring and summer will lead to lower water levels in the two principal reservoirs of the Colorado River Basin, triggering mandatory water cuts in 2021 to Arizona, Nevada, and Mexico, the Bureau of Reclamation said.

Climate change and a prolonged drought throughout much of the basin will force the cuts as required by the Drought Contingency Plans adopted by Mexico, the federal government, and the seven Colorado River states: Arizona, California, and Nevada in the Lower Basin and Colorado, New Mexico, Utah, and Wyoming in the Upper.
