Dow Reaches $77 Million Natural Resource Damage Settlement

Dow Chemical Co. has agreed to settle Superfund natural resource damage claims stemming from contamination at its facility along the Tittabawassee River in Midland, Mich., for an estimated $77 million in projects and funding.

The proposed consent decree would resolve claims by the United States, Michigan, and the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe of Michigan. It aims to restore fish, wildlife, and habitats injured from hazardous substances, including dioxins and furons, released from the facility.

The Midland facility is Dow’s headquarters and has been its primary chemical research and manufacturing facility since the company’s founding in 1890.
