DOT Seeks to Align With Trump’s Environmental Permitting Reforms

The Department of Transportation floated a plan to update its internal processes for complying with the National Environmental Policy Act for the first time in 35 years, bringing the agency in line with Trump administration reforms.

The proposed rule , the first change to Transportation’s procedures since 1985, would help the department “complete environmental review more efficiently in accordance with streamlining efforts,” the agency said.

The proposal, open for public comment through Dec. 23, also updates the list of categorical exclusions—actions that aren’t subject to review because they don’t have a significant effect on the human environment.
