DOE Offers Prizes for Companies to Develop Water Technologies

A new competitive program aims to develop water technologies by 2030—including some to reduce water waste in the energy sector—Energy Secretary Rick Perry announced Oct. 25.

The Water Security Grand Challenge, led by the Energy Department, aims to launch desalination technologies, change the energy sector’s produced water from a waste to a resource, achieve near-zero water impact for new power plants, double resource recovery from municipal water, and develop small, modular energy-water systems that can support remote areas and rural communities.
