The Senate voted 80-11 on Thursday to confirm Kathryn Huff as assistant secretary of the Energy Department’s Office of Nuclear Energy, tasking the nuclear physicist with supporting the country’s 93 operating reactors and advancing new technology and fuel supplies.
Huff, who holds a doctorate in nuclear engineering, left her academic career to join the department in May 2021. She has served as a senior adviser to Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm and principal deputy assistant secretary of the nuclear office.
