Diesel Engine Maker Plans for Separate Federal, California Air Limits

Leading U.S. engine maker Cummins Inc. is developing a range of diesel engine technologies to meet what it expects to be separate limits for ozone-forming pollution, a company official said Oct. 23.

The Environmental Protection Agency is aiming for the start of 2020 to limit ozone-forming nitrogen oxides from heavy-duty diesel engines to an unspecified level nationally, while California is planning to make its own proposal—to reduce up to 90% of that pollutant—in March 2020.
